Cheetos Mix-Ups Cheezy Salsa Mix
Sorcery and witchcraft! It's a mix of different Cheetos types in the same bag! There was another bag in the store, but it didn't have a strange green 'jalapeno cheddar' thing in it, so I passed. Why get normal Cheetos when I can get strange green ones? No reason is why!
The flavors are: salsa picante, chipotle cheddar, jalapeno cheddar and cheddar. Cheddar seems like a standard cheez doodle type chip, while the salsa picante is more like a cheeto. The other two are like a waffle fry (chipotle cheddar), and a green tater tot (jalapeno cheddar). Let the battle for ultimate mix flavor... begin!
But what do they taste like?
Salsa picante: I thought these would have more flavor actually. They're like cheetos, but there's... the tiniest hint of tomato flavor? Not much spice and not much cheese though. They really don't taste like much of anything other than some slight spiciness. These were the mildest of the bunch, which was unexpected.
Chipotle cheddar: chemical-y, chipotle flavor right off the bat. It tastes the way cheese sauce smells, if that makes any sense. It's a strong, sort of smokey cheese flavor that stays pretty strong throughout. It's not bad, but it's definitely the strongest chemical flavor of the bunch. It's also a very thick chip, while the others are smaller bites.
Jalapeno cheddar: jalapeno-y, but not in a painful way yet. They get a little spicier as you go, but not too bad. A tiny bit of a kick, but they taste pretty good! The green is... a little off-putting, but I guess you... might not know it's jalapeno otherwise? All things considered it's pretty mild - like a cheez doodle that tastes spicier than cheez-y.
Cheddar: pretty much your standard cheddar flavor, but weirdly, every single chip seems to have the jalapeno green on it, so they all have a bit of a punch. Basically... think 'cheez doodle' and you've got the cheddar flavor.
All four flavors at once: it's... weird. Pretty much a spicy, chemical-y mix that has a strong cheez doodle flavor. The problem with these is that the 'cheddar' and 'chipotle cheddar' are all way bigger than the others, overpowering them. It's not much of a mix and match bag. Eating a handful without the 'cheddar' flavor is actually better, just because the cheddar flavor is pretty overpowering.
Overall these are fine, but a bit strange. The green from the jalapeno cheddar is pretty strange looking, and when it gets on the cheez doodles it makes them look moldy, even when they're not. The flavors are aren't bad - bit cheesy and spicy, but, all the same, I don't think I'd buy them again.

Ruffles Cheddar & Sour Cream
I've seen these around enough places that I'm not sure they qualify as 'strange', but I've never tried them before so I think that counts. I usually don't like Ruffles that much (at least compared to other, similarly flavored chips) because they always taste greasy I think. But... here goes nothin!
At first look they're practically neon which is a little unappealing. I usually think of Cheetos as radioactive, but I suppose these are too.
But what do they taste like?
Wow. They taste exactly like cheddar and sour cream, but also Ruffles. Maybe off brand sour cream. Or sour cream that's nearly past its prime? They're pretty good, though. They don't taste as greasy as Ruffles usually do which is a major plus. It's just that the sour cream tastes a little off. I realize that it's not actually sour cream so it doesn't matter, but a tiny part of me thinks 'wait... has this sour cream gone bad?'. Maybe I just don't eat sour cream enough to know the taste properly?
Still... these taste pretty good. It's kinda like I'm eating Ruffles that I've dipped in sour cream, but without needing a dip on hand. The cheddar flavor is pretty subtle - kinda overpowered by the sour cream, but it's there. I think these would be better with a stronger cheese to sour cream ratio maybe. I dunno, but I am impressed how spot on the flavor is. It's not the best cheddar or the best sour cream, but it does taste like what it says on the bag, plus a weird chemically flavor that I've come to expect from Ruffles. Would buy again, but not often I think.

Deep River Snacks Aged Cheddar and Horseradish
My mom found these (and a bunch of other strange Deep River flavors) and picked me up a couple of the weirdest ones! Thanks, mom! These aged cheddar and horseradish definitely make my list of 'strange chips'. The bag is a bright orange and I was actually pretty sure they were sweet potato chips at first glance.
I'm not much of a fan of horseradish, but I do love cheddar so let's see how this goes. I've also never seen it as a chip combo before, though I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. They don't smell like much of anything - I was expecting a really potent smell so that's a surprise right there.
But what do they taste like?
Oh! These... these taste like horseradish. There's a powerful 'horseradish' taste right off the bat and hardly any cheddar. It's a very strange sensation - the horseradish flavor overpowers everything with a taste that is distinctly 'horseradish-y' and a spicy burn to match, but then it kind of goes away completely and I'm left with some mouth burn and nothing much else. It's strange because the chips themselves feel like they're covered in cheddar flavor, but none of it comes out in the bite. I think the horseradish completely over powers the cheddar; if it's there I've no hope of tasting it.
These chips are definitely a kick in the mouth. Geez! Happily, the spiciness doesn't last too long so my mouth has stopped burning which is a plus. I'm also not sure why aged cheddar and horseradish is a flavor of chips. Cheddar by itself, sure, but combined with horseradish? Why?
Hopefully the rest of the Deep River chips are more delightful than this! I won't be finishing this bag - they just aren't appealing at all. If you like horseradish, though, give them a shot. You'll certainly be tasting it every mouthful and may well enjoy them.
